ABOUT SUSAN

Meet Susan Spivak, a seasoned artist originally from Barre, Vermont, the granite center of the world. Susan now lives in the Hudson Valley in New York state. Born with an innate artistic spirit, her journey began in the realm of music during her youth. As a singer, songwriter, and folk musician, she honed her skills not only with a guitar and harmonica but also by contributing to various bands during her high school days.

Venturing into the world of academia, she pursued a degree from Emerson College that focused on Theater, discovering a newfound love for the craft of acting. This exploration led her to open Fritzie’s Treasure Chest a children's entertainment studio loft in Larchmont, NY dedicated to families and children, where I rode the wave of the Raffi era, enchanting young minds through my performances. She also crafted whimsical songs and produced a record called “Fritzie’s Treasure Chest that resonated with young audiences and their families, all while maintaining a parallel pursuit in adult music and album production.”

While her early years were marked by performances in blues and pop bands, a gradual evolution beckoned her toward more intricate and artisanal endeavors. “I found myself enchanted by fiber arts, delving into the realms of knitting, felting, and quilting, mastering each craft with a dedication to quality. In the world of jewelry, my expertise shines, especially in the creation of Malas, pieces that reflect both craftsmanship and spiritual resonance.”

Embracing the digital age, she began selling her crafts and creations online years ago, showcasing my work to a global audience. Alongside, I became a familiar face at craft fairs, sharing my passion for handmade artistry with fellow enthusiasts.

Despite the multifaceted nature of her artistic journey, a few years ago, a new chapter began to unfold with drawing, watercolor, and other mediums. Her passion for these mediums ignited and led her to explore various styles and subjects. Currently, she paints and draws every day and shows her work monthly at ASK a Kingston, New York art gallery. This artistic metamorphosis has been nurtured under the guidance of the renowned Betsy Jacaruso, a true professional in the world of watercolor.

Residing just outside the artistic haven of Rhinebeck, New York, she immersed herself in the scenic Hudson Valley, collaborating with fellow artists and sharing my accumulated skills through teaching. The tranquil pursuit of botanical watercolor and gouache painting has become a recent fascination, offering not only a creative outlet but also a therapeutic escape from the hustle and bustle of modern life. As she continues to evolve artistically, she find solace and joy in the quietude of her craft, contributing to the vibrant tapestry of the Hudson Valley arts scene.
